Undaunted, the vine takes root
where it pleases. Five leaflets,
like fingers, overwhelm thickets
and wave from banks of streams.
Tendrils grow over the ground
and reach upward to cling
to trees susceptible to its
unconditional embrace. Like a lover,
it is generous and greedy:
kind to some; inimical to others.
Sun or darkness is incidental.
