| The Aurora Review | Fall 2005 |
Eclecticism
seems to truly be the theme of the Fall 2005 issue of TAR.
Perhaps
it is because I have felt moody and unpredictable these past few
months.
Or perhaps it is the volume and variety of submissions we received
during
this reading period. Either way, there is no overriding theme to the
issue,
no spin I care to place on the contents therein – only that this issue
taken in toto probably says more about my personality and personal
experiences
than any previous issue of TAR.The fiction section has
re-emerged
in the Fall issue, featuring two vignettes plus a short story by Karen
Berry. The poetry section is still kicking and bleeding, with works
from
poets nationwide, while the art section features a few familiar faces
from
last issue – Kim Stratford (our featured artist for the Fall 2005
issue),
Ann Naylor, and Kim Thorpe – and quite a few artists new to TAR,
most notably Dan Zinno, Miya Ando Stanoff, Mary Ann O’Donnell, James
Kelewae, and Hernando Rico Sanchez. The issue concludes with
brief reviews of three very different albums – Martha Wainwright’s
eponymous album; a collaborative EP, In the Reins, from
Calexico
and Iron and Wine; and the new Freakwater CD, Thinking of You... –
and an editorial on the sad state of women’s rights in the United
States
today. (Notably absent is the contributors’ notes page which has gone
the way of the dodo.)
As always, I have enjoyed the
process of compiling this issue and would like to thank each of our
contributors
and all of those who submitted their original work to TAR over
the
past six months for sharing their creativity with me. I hope that you,
the readers, derive as much pleasure in reading this issue as I have
taken
in compiling it.
All the best,
Tracy
