Man and Woman Having Dinner in the Casba
by Kimberly Simms

“I’m sorry I can’t remember your wife’s name.”

“Oh, that isn’t my wife,” he smiles.

“It’s the waitress from the late night pool hall.”

“It’s my sister.”

“I don’t know who she is.  She just sat down.”

“She is Cecilia, the flamenco dancer.”

Excuses are inconsequential in a small town.

Player will swim in murmurs beneath his name.

Yet he smiles, knowing Player will march before:

“He’s vice-president of his Daddy’s company.”

“One of those vegetarians – hasn’t got a TV.”

“Heard that one with the glasses used to write poetry.”
